The explosive battle for the top spot continues! Bruno Mars' "Grenade" bumps off Katy Perry's "Firework" once again to claim this week's top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The past four weeks we saw "Firework" and "Grenade" alternate at the top spot. Three former #1 songs followed, Rihanna & Drake's "What's My Name" (#3), Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" (#4), and Pink's "Raise Your Glass" (#5). The next three songs are the only ones in the top 10 that didn't hit the #1 yet, Enrique Iglesias' 'Tonight (I'm Lovin' You) stays at #6 while Whiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" (#7) and The Black Eyed Peas' "The Time (Dirty Bit)" (#8) swapped positions. Rounding off the top 10 are former #1 songs "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars (#9) and "Only Girl (In The World)" by Rihanna (#10). Missing the top 10 is Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" which climbs #13-#11 on its 32nd week on the chart, very impressive longevity I must say.
Expect a splashy debut next week for Britney Spears' new single "Hold It Against Me". The song reportedly could sell at least 400k downloads next week and with the song already breaking airplay records on its debut, I'm pretty sure this song will debut atop the Hot 100 next week.
"Hold It Against Me" actually entered the Billboard Bubbling Under Chart at #124 just on the strength of its airplay (and the song was just release on radio last January 10!).
Britney Spears is not the only one who's expected to make a high debut next week as Avril Lavigne's new single "What The Hell" is currently the #2 song on iTunes. If "What The Hell" scores a top 10 debut next week, it will be her first song to hit the top 10 since "Girlfriend" was #1 in May 2007.
Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It" (down #32-34) is still the longest chart sitter with 35 weeks on the chart. Eminem and Rihanna's phenomenal hit "Love The Way You Lie" will likely drop out of the chart next week and go recurrent as the song drops #35-#46 on its 29th week on the chart. This might be the last week we could see Taylor Swift's "Mine" on the Hot 100 as the song drops #31-#50 on its 23rd week on the chart.
Songs on the chart that are 20 weeks or older that is not on the Top 50 anymore will automatically drop out on the chart and be on the recurrent unless the song is just rising in airplay (as it usually happen when songs crossover from one genre to mainstream radio) or was re-released/promoted again by the record label.
Saying goodbye to chart this week and moving to recurrent status are The Ready Set's "Love Like Woe" which was last seen at #37 and spent 21 weeks on the chart peaking at #27, Chris Brown's "Deuces" last seen at #45, 27 weeks on the chart and peaked at #14 and lastly (and this one breaks my heart because it never made the top 40) Mumford & Sons "Little Lion Man" last seen at #64, stayed on the chart for 21 weeks and peaked at #61. This song could have stayed on the chart if the airplay was rising but alas it did not.
